“What they’re trying to do is to be able to define when life begins, and that’s a slippery slope,” said Kristina Diamond, a spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island.
"Trying to define when life begins".
No. That debate is settled to anyone who knows even a smattering of biology.
Human life begins at conception.
I don't know how many times I've been in a debate with a poor-choice person who has insisted that life does not begin at conception.
What the poor-choice person is really trying to establish is that zygotes are not "one of us".
But that's a different argument.
A zygote is an organism. That is a biological fact. Now every organism belongs to a species. A zygote produced by two human gametes will produce a human organism.
That's fairly rudimentary biology.
Therefore, the zygote is a homo sapiens-- in plain English, a human being. That's what we call members of our species.
NO!!!! insists the poor-choicer. They're not human beings! They don't have consciousness!!!
Biology says otherwise. Now, the issue of whether they are persons is a philosophical one.
Biologically, there is no doubt. An individual human's life begins at conception.
But PP doesn't like people seeing the fetus. Because they're afraid that people will draw conclusions gasp based on their own philosophical ideas. Women go into the abortion clinic thinking the fetus is just a clump of cells.
The crisis pregnancy centres provide invaluable information that advocates of legalized abortion will not reveal to women (when they are actually conscious of this fact): A fetus is not a clump of cells. A fetus has a beating heart. A fetus is a human life. Abortion takes a human life.
They don't want to speak the plain, biological truths of abortion.
They don't want to confuse women with the facts when their minds are made up.
