POLL:Pro-life side gains 5 points in SD abortion vote

VoteYesForLife put out a news release on the latest poll on the coming vote on the abortion in South Dakota. The poll was conducted by Zogby:

If the vote for House Bill 1215 which would outlaw all abortions with an exception for the life of the mother were held today, would you vote for House Bill 1215 to outlaw most abortions or would you vote against House Bill 1215?

9/20 7/’06

Zogby Mason-Dixon Difference

Yes 44 39 +5

No 47 47 0

The No side still seems ahead at 47 percent versus the pro-lifer's 44 per cent, but since the margin of error is 4.3%, we can say they're statistically equal.

This seems to signal good news for the pro-life side. A gain of 5 points is very significant, especially in light of no gains made by the pro-aborts. The pro-life side has the momentum. Here is another interesting tidbit:

Abortion proponents often say abortion needs to be legal for women and young people. Yet the new poll suggests that voters under 30 back the law at a rate of two to one. Additionally, women are expressing overwhelming support for the limitation of abortion.

Wow. People under 30 support the ban in a proportion of 2 to 1. Incredible!

What might be tough, though, is that there appears to be a high percentage of decided voters-- 91 per cent. There would need to be a measure of how deep that pro-abort support is. The other thing would be to get out the vote on voting day. That's the thing that will make or break this vote. I hope they're organized!
