Father Raymond Gravel

Father Raymond Gravel's election is creating a lot of buzz on the internet. I've had dozens and dozens and dozens of google searches end up on this blog.

It seems people want to get the inside scoop on this guy.

Judging from the searches, they want to know if he's really celibate, where he was born and just any little nugget they can get.

I suggest bookmarking this blog for future reference, though. (Okay, this is a shameless attempt at plugging my blog, but why not? It's my blog!)

Doubtless, there will be future stories on this guy.

Doubtless I will attempt to debunk the MSM's mistakes on points of Catholic doctrine and practice.

I have a hunch Raymond Gravel will eventually be a liability for the Bloc. Why do I think that? Just the nature of the soundbytes. His actions are so amateurish. He claims he won't enter into politics without his bishop's permission or the Vatican. But then he gets into politics. Then he admits he doesn't have a lot of political experience, as if to say he doesn't know a lot about the inner workings. And he's a bit of a media whore, which is a bad sign. And now he says this:

Asked why he chose a sovereigntist party, Gravel said, "I don’t want to be in government. I want to help my constituents, and I think it’s a party that serves Quebec’s interests very well in Ottawa. I’m a Quebecer and I have always supported Quebec autonomy."

I get the distinct feeling he doesn't get that the Bloc Québécois is about QUEBEC SEPARATION.

"Autonomy"-- that's the Conservative line.

The cumulative impression I get is that he doesn't know what he's doing. He's going about this like an amateur, coasting on his convictions and the media attention, rather than making judicious, practical decisions.

People like that have a tendency to make life hard for strategists. I get the feeling he will shoot from the hip as he has in the Church and get the Bloc in trouble. He's already caused Duceppe to say that the vote on marriage won't be whipped.

At any rate, while you non-regular readers of Big Blue Wave are here, please Take a look at my blogburst. It's a blogburst calling on the Conservative Party to allow candidates to answer abortion questionnaires. They don't like being accused of a hidden agenda, but they act like they have to hide things.

Please take a look!
