Support for abortion restrictions is up: poll

It's that time of year again-- time for LifeCanada's annual abortion poll.

And once again it shows that A FIRM MAJORITY OF CANADIANS WANT MORE ABORTION RESTRICTIONS.

In this year's poll, conducted by Environics, 64% of Canadians believed that abortions should be restricted some of the time, up from 60% in 2005.

Just for some background here are the results from previous years (of those who want restrictions on abortion at least some of the time):

Environics October 2004: 68%
Leger and Leger Novmber 2003: 63%
Leger and Leger 2002: 56%
Gallup 2001: 66%

What this shows is that it is not an extreme position to oppose some abortions some of the time. Most Canadians do indeed think women should have the "right to choose [abortion]" in certain circumstances, and it's about time that pro-abortion politicians fessed up to this. When they stand for the status quo on abortion, as Paul Martin did, they are in the minority, not those who want some restrictions on abortion.

If you're a Canadian pro-lifer, I strongly recommend that you put the word out on this topic, because it's about time the public knew.

I hope to write a more in-depth post in the future.
