SD ban could virtually eliminate all abortions

Pierre, SD (LifeNews.com) -- South Dakota lawmakers are preparing another statewide ban on abortions after voters turned back the last abortion ban at the polls. The previous prohibition would allow abortions only when necessary to save a mother's life and the new ban would add rape and incest exceptions to that.

Though voters defeated the abortion ban by a 56 to 44 percent margin, polls consistently showed that a ban that allowed abortions in the very rare cases of rape and incest would get voter approval.

I thought I saw somewhere there would be a "health" exception to this bill.

If there's a health exception, even the slightest one, it will be interpreted in the widest sense possible.

This could virtually eliminate abortions, though. Right now, there are 800 abortions. If the number of abortions goes down to less than 20, Planned Parenthood may not even bother to send their abortionist in from Minnesota. This could very well mean the elimination of abortion in South Dakota.

I think this could pass, if it makes it through the legislature.
