ALERT: Liberal MP Keith Martin tables free speech motion

Yesterday, Liberal MP Keith Martin tabled motion M-446 to delete Section 13(1) from the Canadian Human Rights Act, which says:

13. (1) It is a discriminatory practice for a person or a group of persons acting in concert to communicate telephonically or to cause to be so communicated, repeatedly, in whole or in part by means of the facilities of a telecommunication undertaking within the legislative authority of Parliament, any matter that is likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt by reason of the fact that that person or those persons are identifiable on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination.

This is the section that makes certain people feel entitled to drag Christians in front of human rights tribunals for expressing their disagreement with homosexual behaviour.

I would like to urge you to email Keith Martin through this page and thank him for tabling this motion. The more emails he gets, the better he can claim that this motion is supported by Canadians.

Next, I urge you to contact your MP's and urge them to support this motion (even you know there's no way your MP will support this-- creating buzz is important, too). If you do not know who your MP is, you can type in your postal code at the top of this page and it will tell you. List of MP's is here to get contact information.

It's true that it's only a motion, and it will not have any legislative effect, BUT it will show which MP's are with us, and who is not, on the Free Speech issue.

Please pass this message on to all your Free Speech contacts.

And thanks to Stand Your Ground for breaking this story. Give him some traffic!
