More disinformation from a feminist on C-484

Ginette Petitpas-Taylor claims that Bill C-484 would grant a "type of personhood" to the fetus if this bill passes.

That's ridiculous.

You are either a person. Or you are not.

In Canada, the fetus is not a person. There is no "halfway" status. The definition of Section 223 of the Criminal Code would not change.

They make up the law as they go along.

This Bill would affect women's access to abortion and open the door to pregnant women being targeted for their behaviours.

How exactly? The bill says that it does not apply to abortion.

She provides no substantiation. Only conjecture.

Pregnant women who use or abuse drugs or alcohol have been punished under "fetal protection laws" adopted in most of the states in the United States.

But not one has been prosecuted under an "unborn victims of crime bill". So that objection is disingenuous. The bill itself says that it does not apply to any act of omission or commission on the part of the woman.

We would do better to demand policies based on evidence. Policies and laws should not be written up as a way of consoling the grieving.

Laws should be based on the principles of morality and justice. To not count a fetus as a victim is an insult to the woman and the family. Killing a fetus is more than just an assault on the woman. It is a loss in and of itself, and the legal system should recognize this.

The 8,000-member Quebec Federation of Medical Specialists has denounced the bill as a sneaky scheme to criminalize abortion.

And their members were not consulted. It represents the opinion of their leadership, not their members.
