Vietnam to restrict abortion

Wow.

Vietnam used to be a haven for abortion.

Vietnam conducts over a million abortions a year.

Now the rules will be tightened. Besides banning sex-selection abortion:

The proposal establishes the procedures involving husbands and fathers, the clinical diagnosis on the condition of the fetus and health guarantees for mothers and children.

It also underlines the requirements to allow abortion, including the abortion must only be conducted if it will secure the woman's life from a potentially deadly birth, if the foetus is a product of rape or is likely to suffer from congenital malformations, and if the woman is too young and unable to afford the costs of raising her child.
