“What are the nuns doing that they can’t answer the phone?” Francis asked in the message he left, the recording of which was obtained by Spain’s El Mundo newspaper and broadcast on Italian media Saturday.
“This is Pope Francis. I wanted to offer you greetings for the end of the year. Maybe I’ll try to call again later. May God bless you,” he said.
I bet the nuns are kicking themselves.
I am in between the generation that sends everyone to voicemail and those who feel it's rude not to pick up.
I pick up unless I'm really in a bind.
My husband doesn't pick up if he doesn't feel like getting up or talking. Which is not infrequent and which I think is rude to people we suspect may be phoning (we don't have a machine! My voicemail is on my cell phone).
Luckily I have four daughters. Two of them answer the phone, and my five-year-old picked up for the first time when I called from out-of-town the other night. My husband didn't want to pick up (He might have been busy, though).
