Pope Francis Foresees Making "Pope Emeritus" Into an Institution

And I think it only makes sense.

Once upon a time, life expectancy was far below what it is today, and people didn't linger for years on end in a vegetative.

What happens if a Pope ever suffers a stroke and remains unresponsive for five years or more?

That would leave a dangerous power vacuum.

I think resignation from the Papal throne may become a more routine thing.

I would love to hear more from Pope Benedict. There's always the danger that he might upstage the acting Pope.

But I love him. He's so full of wisdom.
