CT: Teen mom charged for drowning baby in toilet

DANBURY -- A baby born to a 17-year-old Danbury High School student died as a result of a homicide caused by drowning, according to a final autopsy report from the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner.

Panna Krom, who was charged January with murder and risk of injury for allegedly drowning her baby, has been held at York Correctional Institution in Niantic on $750,000 bail. She has been at the state's women's prison since being charged.

In Canada, this woman would be charged with infanticide, and if convicted would only be sentenced to five years, on the assumption that if a woman kills her child, she's suffering from Post-partum syndrome.

I'm all for making allowances for mental illness, but that kind of discrimination shouldn't be allowed.
