Canadian Poor-Choicer: Opposition to Abortion is Growing

A well organized and vocal opposition to abortion has started to take root in Canada and with the upcoming anniversary of the Morgentaler decision pro-choice activists will have their work cut out for them.

Those are the words of Pamela Pizarro in Rheality Check.

That's how victory starts folks. You start by making a lot of noise. Sure, that's not the be-all and end-all of socio-political change, but it's an essential element.

I can see the evidence of this around me. First, the mainstream media is paying a little bit more attention to pro-life issues. Ten years ago, abortion didn't get a lot of play in the media. Now, it seems, every week there are articles in Canadian papers that relate to the issue. Another factor that comes into play is that people now have access to this information through the internet and Google News alerts. Once upon a time, it could take weeks for a news story to make the rounds. Now it takes hours and days.

Another thing I see is that pro-lifers are much more vocal and somewhat more organized although I think there is still a long way to go before we are politically a factor.

It can happen. We just need more people to devote themselves to the issue and organize the masses. We don't even need that many people. We just need very dedicated people.

We also need people willing to become more savvy about how politics works. But that will come.

I simply want to say: if you're pro-life and you're reading this: get involved. Now is the time. The momentum is ever so slowly starting to build on our side. Your efforts now will make a perceptible difference.
