Link Dump: Abortion, Gendercide, Graphic Images, Pope Francis

A link dump just because I have lots to do today.

A disturbing study of gendercide in India. In some places, the sex ratio is getting worse. It's all due to the dowry system.

Queensland Maternal and Perinatal Quality Council report reveals women more likely to commit suicide while pregnant or within a year of giving birth. Mentions the risks of suicide and abortion.

Bylaw going too far to stop legal protest. Part editorial, part reporting. The Mayor of Charlottetown contemplated a ban on protest with graphic images, but legal opinion says it would be unconstitutional.

Ireland: Baby delivered as woman refused abortion under law. I always thought a good first step to fight for the unborn would be to vote a law that would allow for termination in the third trimester, but with the intent of preserving the life of the child. So you can stop being pregnant in the third trimester. Just don't kill the baby.

Pope makes strong but silent anti-abortion statement with prayer at South Korea memorial.

Important passage:

In a 2013 interview with a Jesuit journal, Francis acknowledged that he had been “reprimanded” for not pressing the issue. But he said it wasn’t necessary to harp about abortion all the time.

“The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently,” Francis said at the time. “We have to find a new balance; otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel.”

Exactly. He didn't say we STOP caring about fetal rights.

Anything can become an idol, folks. Including the culture war. When you think only about that, to the exclusion of everything else, it becomes an idol. The purpose of the Church is to save souls, and that mission is multi-faceted. Don't forget that!
